After the justice department approved the merger of Continental Airlines and United Airlines last Friday, Congressman James Oberstar (D-Minn) voiced his displeasure again with the merger and suggested that Congress might just need to reconsider the deregulation of airlines that happened in 1978.

The airlines have been stuck between a rock and a hard place for years. Combined profits of the industry are non-existent and customer satisfaction with airline service is somewhere down there in the range of our approval ratings of congress’s performance.

Indianapolis International Airpor to Open New Facility for Cargo Shipment

Claiming cargo carried in passenger planes at Indianapolis International Airport will get a little easier Wednesday.

A new $5.4 million facility for shipping and receiving large or unusual freight items carried by airlines is scheduled to open just south of the Col. H. Weir Cook Terminal building.

The Airport Support Services Building is a 40,000-square foot concrete structure at 7899 South Service Drive. The location along the south drive into the passenger terminal building is just east of the cell phone parking lot and is marked with blue signs.

CAL to Open Three New All-Cargo Flight Routes Destined to China

China Airlines (CAL), Taiwan’s largest carrier, announced Friday that it will open all-cargo flight services between Taiwan’s Taoyuan airport and the cities of Xiamen, Nanjing and Fuzhou this month to meet rising demand from China.

CAL will launch a weekly all-cargo flight between Taiwan and Xiamen in Fujian province on Sept. 4 and one to Nanjing in Jiangsu province on Sept. 11, the company said.

Singapore Airlines Will Operate New Daily Flights to Munich and Manchester

September 1st 2010, Singapore Airlines (SIA) will operate new daily flights for the route Singapore-Munich-Manchester, with two new weekly routes available in addition to the five existing for European destinations.

Air travel, made on B-777/300ER planes in the largest city of Southern Germany, was inaugurated on March 28th 2010, and, until now, was offered for five days a week.

The enhancement in the frequency of the flights to Munich is due to the imminent 200th Oktoberfest, the famous beer festival that will take place from September 18th to October 3rd, 2010.
