Alaska Airlines began nonstop service Wednesday between San Jose, Calif., and Austin, Texas.

The flight was to originate in Portland, Ore. The airline will add another daily flight between the three cities starting March 14, 2010.

The carrier said a Wi-Fi-equipped plane would be used on the new route, allowing passengers to access the Internet in flight.

The airline’s frequent flier plan members can earn double miles on the new flights between San Jose and Austin through Oct. 31.

Alaska Airlines is a unit of Seattle-based Alaska Air Group Inc., which also is the parent of Horizon Air.
