American Airlines and American Eagle Cuts Flight To Mexico

American Airlines and American Eagle operator AMR Corp. said Tuesday it would lower its number of flights to Mexico by 25% effective May 8 through June 10. The reduction will impact the Fort Worth, Texas-based carrier’s high-frequency routes, lowering the number of daily roundtrips to Mexico to 31 from 42, the company said. None of the current 14 destinations to the country will lose service. AMR said the reduced number of flights is due to weaker travel demand. Airlines with flights to Mexico have seen an uptick in cancellations and flight itinerary changes to the country amid the outbreak of swine flu. Shares of AMR last traded at $6.21, up 10.6%.
