Jet Airways Negotiate With Several Airlines for Leasing Out Aircraft

Naresh Goyal-led private air carrier Jet Airways is negotiating with several airlines, including Oman Air, for exploring possibilities of leasing out its surplus aircraft, a top company official said.

“Jet Airways is in discussions with various airlines including Oman Air for exploring possibilities of leasing out aircraft,” Jet Airways executive director Saroj K Dutta told PTI.

Dutta, however, did not elaborate on the issue saying that “details will be announced once finalised”.

The Mumbai-based air carrier has been leasing out its aircraft which have been grounded following route rationalisation, pruning of its operation and cost-cutting.

Jet Airways, which had launched its Mumbai-Shanghai flight last year amidst much fanfare had already announced to withdraw from the sector from January 13. It has also shelved its plan to launch a second on Mumbai-Dubai sector. In addition, the airline has also put on hold its plans to start flight operations to Saudi Arabia.

The senior company official is believed to have held discussions recently with the Gulf-based carrier on the issue. Jet Airways is also understood to be negotiating with another airline, Gulf Air, to provide its 3-4 A777 aircraft to the airline on lease.

Earlier, Jet had leased two A330 aircraft to Gulf Air on a short term lease in December last which is ending in March this year. Also, two of its aircraft are on lease with Turkish Airline.
