Find Best Deal Summer Season Airline Ticket Prices by Using Credit Card

May 18, 2011 | Filed under : Air Travel

best deal airline tickets for summer seasonKeep Spirits High and Ticket Price Low This Summer by Being in the Know on Airline Credit Card Practices.

As airlines suffer a backlash from the Office of Fair Trading on the rising cost of booking by credit card, budget conscious consumers fear sticking to low cost travel could be a struggle.

Cheapflights.co.uk, the UK’s leading website for price search and comparison, breaks down the credit cards charges of 10 top airlines to help keep travelers in the know on where to find the best deals.

“While it’s difficult to avoid being charged altogether, it is possible to keep charges to a minimum depending on the type of card used and the airline you’re booking with,” says Nadine Hallak, Travel Expert for Cheapflights.

“Travelers should keep in mind that budget airlines may not always carry the lowest overall ticket price once all the ‘extras’ have been added, so it’s worth shopping around and doing the math as traveling with a flagship carrier could work out to be more cost effective,” adds Hallak.

The below list shows 10 Top Airlines and the fees they carry per type of credit card:

1. Iceland Express: 1% of total ticket cost on all cards.

2. Air Europe: £0 on Visa Debit, Mastercard Debit, Visa Credit, Mastercard Credit. NB: American Express is not accepted and there are no baggage fees when flying this airline.

3. British Airways: £0 on Visa Debit/Electron, Switch/Maestro, and Mastercard Debit. BA charges £4.50 on Visa Credit, Mastercard Credit, and American Express.

4. Virgin: £0 on all debit cards and £5.68 on all credit cards.

5. Monarch: £0 on Visa Electron, £3.90 on all other Debit cards, and £5.57 on Credit/Mastercard.

6. Jet 2: £5.56 booking fee and credit card fee of £5.76 on all credit cards. £5.56 booking fee on Debit Cards. £0 on Electron. £5.56 booking fee if using Paypal plus £2.47 Paypal fee on top.

7. BMI Baby: £9 on American Express, MasterCard, and Visa Credit. £6 on Visa Debit, Switch/Maestro, and Solo. £0 on Electron.

8. Flybe: £9 transaction fee plus £1 on top for Visa, American Express, and Mastercard. £9 transaction fee on Visa Debit, Switch/Maestro, and Solo cards. £0 on Electron.

9. Ryanair: £6 each way (on any card whether debit or credit).

10. Easyjet: £12.95 on American Express, Visa and Mastercard. £8 on Visa Debit and Mastercard Debit. £0 on Visa Electron.

Commenting on the hike in charges imposed by most airlines, Iceland Express’ CEO Matthias Imsland says, “Iceland Express is a low cost airline that strives to remain low cost. We are keen to keep our credit card charges to a minimum so as not to impact heavily on the overall cost of the flight. We include all taxes and surcharges from the outset and like our customers to see the cost of the flight upfront and be reassured that the price will not keep rising at every stage of the booking.

Start Book Airline Seats to Get Cheap Airline Ticket for Your Summer Vacation Destinations

February 27, 2011 | Filed under : Air Travel

South Georgia travel experts say it’s time to get organized and get busy if you want the lowest airfares for your summer vacation.

Airlines are expected to increase prices in the coming weeks, as more travelers start book seats to vacation destinations.

Thursday most major U.S. airlines rolled back a Monday fare increase of up to $120 per round trip on tickets favored by business travelers.

Albany’s airport director says if you want the best price, you had better book soon.

Southwest Georgia Regional Airport Director Yvette Aehle said “Obviously supply and demand. Like everything always is with the airlines. If there is not a lot of seats to be sold, the seat price is going to go up. And also the fuel prices that are spiking at this point.”

Travel experts say you can find some fare bargains through the Internet or social media. Frequent searches for “air fare alert” to see what pops up, and also follow the airlines on Twitter and Face book, to keep track of cheap fares that might occur without much notice.

Commercial Aviation History : Airbus Wins Record Order From IndiGo Airline India, Boosting Upgrade A320 jet Engines

January 13, 2011 | Filed under : Air Travel

Airbus SAS won the biggest order in commercial aviation history, worth $15 billion at list price, from Indian low-fare carrier IndiGo Airlines, a boost for the company’s decision to upgrade its A320 jet with new engines.

The preliminary agreement to buy 180 planes will include 150 of the modernized A320 aircraft, according to a statement late yesterday. Toulouse, France-based Airbus committed to the new variant in December after more than a year of studying the option and expects a firm order from IndiGo within two months.

Success in selling single-aisle jets is critical for Airbus and rival Boeing Co. as they derive most of their earnings from those planes. Airbus’s pledge to offer new engines on the A320 from 2016 has put pressure on Chicago-based Boeing to consider the future of its best-selling model, the 737.

“It’s a strong start,” said Richard Aboulafia, vice president of Fairfax, Virginia-based Teal Group. “Boeing will face more pressure to make a decision on its single-aisle future. The company’s faith in staying the course with its current 737 probably won’t be tenable for more than 6-12 months.”

Airbus dubbed its latest offering the Airbus NEO, which stands for new engine option. Boeing has said that it was capable of offering its 737 with new, more fuel efficient engines, though has held back so far from a commitment, saying it wasn’t sure the business stacked up.

Indian Growth

The new aircraft will help IndiGo boost operations in the world’s second-most populous country. The carrier, owned by InterGlobe Enterprises Ltd., had already ordered 100 Airbus single-aisle jets and operates 32. InterGlobe, headed by Managing Director Rahul Bhatia, also runs hotels, sells business jets and offers technology services.

“The fundamental demand for air travel is only going up,” said Aditya Ghosh, the president of IndiGo, in an interview with Bloomberg UTV. “The gap between capacity and demand is increasing and these planes will extend our order book beyond 2015, when the 100 planes we ordered earlier are delivered.”

India’s economic growth of 8.9 percent in the quarter ended Sept. 30 made it the world’s second-fastest-growing major economy. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s government is aiming to sustain more than 9 percent annual economic growth to improve the lives of 828 million people who live on less than $2 a day.

Domestic air travel may surge fourfold to 180 million passengers annually by 2020, Singh predicted last year.

“India is one of the key growth markets of the world for aviation, and we are betting on the winners in India,” Airbus Sales Chief John Leahy said in a telephone interview yesterday.

SpiceJet, Air India

The country will likely need 1,030 new commercial aircraft over 20 years, the plane maker said in March. SpiceJet Ltd., the New Delhi-based discount carrier, last year announced orders for 30 Boeing 737s and 30 Bombardier Inc. turboprop planes. Flag carrier Air India and Jet Airways (India) Ltd. have both ordered Boeing 787 Dreamliners.

The classic Airbus A320 had a list price of $81.4 million in 2010, and Airbus has said the upgraded version would cost $6 million more. The company will start delivering the new versions in early 2016 and predicted a market potential of as many as 4,000 aircraft over 15 years. IndiGo is the first client to commit to the new variant.

Firm Order Pending

Leahy said a firm order will be signed in about two months. IndiGo ordered some standard models because it needed aircraft before the new jets become available. Specific engines for the aircraft will be announced later, according to Airbus.

IndiGo has not yet decided how to finance the order, Ghosh said. “The order is still 5-6 years before kicking in and the company has time to decide on funding options.” he said.

The geared turbofan engine by United Technologies Corp.’s Pratt & Whitney unit and the Leap-X from CFM International, the venture of General Electric Co. and Safran SA of France, are the choices on the new A320. The current IndiGo fleet uses engines from International Aero Engines, a venture led by Pratt & Whitney and London-based Rolls-Royce Group Plc.

The A320 is a twin-engine model that seats about 125 to 185 people. When the company introduced the A320 in the 1980s, the jet included novelties such as fly-by-wire electronic handling, helping Airbus leapfrog Boeing Co. deliveries from 2003 onward.

Doug Runte, a managing director at Piper Jaffray & Co. in New York, said that while the IndiGo order is important for the new A320, the real test will be winning away a Boeing customer.

“IndiGo is a legacy A320 operator so it is not all that surprising that it would choose to stick with the A320 family,” he said today. “The real win for Airbus and for the ‘‘Neo’’ will come if and when they can wrest a legacy 737 customer from Boeing by virtue of their new product.”

Extra Fees Airlines Passengers : Airlines Expected to Collect $22.6 Billion In Fees In 2010

October 21, 2010 | Filed under : Air Travel, Airline Service, Aviation

All of those extra fees airline passengers pay to check bags, fly standby and order food, among other costs, will generate an estimated $22.6 billion in 2010 for the world’s air carriers.

That is the forecast included in a study released Friday by IdeaWorks Co., a Wisconsin-based consulting firm for the travel industry.

Major U.S. carriers will generate $6.7 billion of that total in 2010, the study estimated.

IdeaWorks did not perform a similar estimate for all airlines for 2009. However, the company previously reported that 97 airlines around the globe collecting $13.5 billion in fees in 2009 and $10.25 billion in 2008.

IdeaWorks calculated the projected revenue from such charges — known as ancillary fees — by studying the revenue reports released earlier this year by 46 airlines.

The revenue from such fees now represents less than 5% of the operating revenue for the airlines, according to the IdeaWorks study.

Still, the revenue from airline fees can jump significantly in the next year if every airline decides to maximize the range of services and products offered passengers, said Philippe Chereque, executive vice president for Amadeus, a Madrid-based technology company that specializes in helping airlines collect fees.

Qatar Airways Adds Business Class Nonstop Flight Phuket to Thailand Flight Routes

September 21, 2010 | Filed under : Air Travel, Airline Flight, Aviation

Qatar Airways will expand and strengthen their first and business class offering with the addition of Phuket to the airlines Thailand routes. This non-stop flight will be the third for Qatar Airways from Doha. The flight will travel to Bangkok and extend from the capital to Vietnam.

This is a huge advance for Qatar, which will see the airline step forward and attempt to contend with Middle Eastern airlines and other giants offering first and business class flights like Emirates Airlines and Etihad Airways. These airlines previously used Thailand as an establishing point for their services.

From October the Phuket routes will be phased into the already demanding and daily flights. The route will fly via Kuala Lumpur and will become the first airline in the Middle East to fly to the Thai island in the Southern part of the globe.

Flights in November will also alter, with flights from Bangkok beginning to take place. These flights will fly to Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, and will run regularly, four times a week.

Qatar airways is well established as a five-star airline that caters to the increasing demand in premium class travel. These additional first and business class flights will further strengthen the airlines impressive credentials and is sure to increase the amount of passengers who fly with the carrier dramatically.

Aviation Industry Future : Boeing Plans to Sell Seats On 2015 Space Flight

September 18, 2010 | Filed under : Air Travel, Airline Industry, Aviation, Boeing

The Boeing Co. said Wednesday that it was entering the space tourism business, an announcement that could bolster the Obama administration’s efforts to transform NASA into an agency that focuses less on building rockets and more on nurturing a commercial space industry.

Boeing — which is developing a capsule that it hopes will take NASA astronauts to the International Space Station and on Tuesday was awarded a five-year, $1.2 billion extension of its contract with NASA covering engineering work on the station — announced that it will offer for sale any seats that NASA does not need. Boeing officials said their first flight is aimed for 2015.

The entrance of an aerospace giant like Boeing perhaps marks the transition of space tourism from a fanciful pursuit of startup entrepreneurs to a mainstream aerospace market.

“We’re ready now to start talking to prospective customers,” said Eric Anderson , co-founder and chairman of Space Adventures Ltd. , a Virginia-based space tourism company that would market the seats for Boeing.

Current NASA plans call for four space station crew members to travel on each flight. The Boeing capsule, called the CST-100 , would have room for seven, leaving perhaps three seats available for space tourists.

Boeing and Space Adventures have not set a price yet. Anderson said the cost would be competitive with the Soyuz flights. Guy Laliberté , founder of Cirque du Soleil, spent about $40 million for a Soyuz trip to the space station last year.

But the prospects that anyone who buys a ticket will ever get to space hinge on Congress, which is considering two versions of a bill that support very different visions for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.

A bill written by the House’s science and technology committee to lay out the direction of NASA for the next three years would largely follow the traditional trajectory for human space flight.

The bill calls for NASA to build a government-owned rocket — probably the Ares I , which NASA has been working on for five years — to transport astronauts to the International Space Station.

The competing vision, embodied in President Barack Obama’s 2011 budget proposal for NASA, focuses instead on nurturing private companies that want to develop the space equivalent of airlines. NASA would then simply buy seats on those rockets to send its astronauts to the International Space Station.

Competition, the thinking goes, would drive down the cost of getting to space, leading to a profitable new American industry and freeing more of NASA’s budget for the deep-space missions.
