Alaska Airlines Reposition Online Marketing and Sales

Alaska Airlines reposition online group servicesAlaska Airlines today announced a realignment of its marketing, sales and online commerce groups.

Joe Sprague, a 10-year veteran at Alaska Airlines, has been named vice president of marketing. Sprague will be responsible for the carrier’s overall marketing strategy as he oversees marketing communications, sales, reservations, food and beverage, customer care, the Mileage Plan frequent flier program and Board Rooms. Sprague will also retain responsibility for Alaska Air Cargo, a division he has led for the past two years.

Steve Jarvis, formerly Alaska’s vice president of marketing, sales and customer experience, will assume the new role of vice president of customer innovation and alaskaair.com. (continue reading…)

Boeing Commercial Airplanes Possibility to Modify Structural Next Generation 737 Engine

Aircraft manufacturer Boeing may modify the production of Boeing 737 Next Generation. VP of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, said in an interview with ATI and Flightglobal ISTAT, “We’ve talked in moderate detail about what to do. What do we think we’ll have to do is we should have a new mast, new nacelle, wing reinforcement and strengthening of the potential wingbox. ”

Tinseth explains that Boeing “doesn’t really want to touch the main landing gear and we don’t have to. We’ve looked a little bit around maybe some minor modifications around the nose landing gear, still yet to be determined.”

United Airlines Signs Firm Order for 25 Airbus A350 XWB Aircraft

United Airlines has made a firm order for 25 of Airbus’ A350 extra-wide bodied jets, fulfilling a commitment signed in December, the European aircraft manufacturer said Wednesday.

Deliveries of the 314-seat A350-900s are scheduled to begin in 2016 and run through 2019, Airbus said in a statement.

The order is half of a 50-aircraft order United announced in December, when it also unveiled plans to buy 25 of Airbus’ rival Boeing Co.’s 787 jets.

FAA Directs Airlines to Check Mechanism That Controls Tail Flap of Boeing 737s

The Federal Aviation Administration has issued an emergency airworthiness directive demanding that airlines check a mechanism that controls tail flaps on about 600 Boeing 737s.

The directive was issued Friday and concerns flaps on the horizontal tails of the jets. On March 2, a Ryanair 737-800 en route from the Netherlands to Madrid, Spain, experienced severe vibrations in flight and had to make an unscheduled landing in Belgium.

United Airlines Places Orders For 25 Airbus A350s And 25 Boeing 787s

United Airlines announced on Tuesday that it has ordered 25 Airbus A350XWB aircraft and 25 Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft and has future purchase rights for an additional 50 of both types of aircraft.

These orders follow a six-month request for proposal process, resulting in agreements with both Airbus and Boeing that allow United to meet its financial and operational objectives.

Boeing Will Test 787 Dreamliner in 2009 but Delays Delivery

Boeing Company, Thursday, announced it would test-fly its 787 Dreamliner later this year but disappointed customers by delaying delivery of the plane until the fourth quarter of 2010.

Wall Street cheered the announcement as Boeing’s stock soared more than 6% in New York trading after the company said it still expects the 787 to be profitable.

Boeing Sees First 787 Flight This Year

Boeing said on Thursday its 787 Dreamliner would finally make its first flight by the end of this year, with initial delivery expected in the fourth quarter of 2010.

Shares of the Chicago-based company rose to a five-month high as the statement helped answer questions that have surrounded the lighter, more fuel-efficient 787 aircraft, said Alex Hamilton, an analyst with Jesup & Lamont Securities. (continue reading…)

Air Canada New Flights Services Montreal – Bruseels Next Year

Air Canada has announced plans to launch new flights from Montreal to Brussels next year.

The airline is planning to begin the non-stop services on 12 June, subject to approval from the Canadian and Belgian governments.

Operating daily, the new flights will continue to and from Toronto, meaning passengers from the city will be connected with Brussels via Montreal.
