Airlines Jobs : SkyWest Airlines Plans to Cut 170 jobs from Salt Lake City Airport

SkyWest Airlines has announced it will cut 170 positions from its Salt Lake City workforce.
The Deseret News reports that some baggage handler and ticket agent jobs at Salt Lake International Airport will be eliminated.
Airline spokeswoman Marissa Snow says the layoffs are a result of service reductions on several daily flights.
She says the cuts would be effective late next month for the SkyWest employees who serve Delta Connection flights.
St. George-based SkyWest employs about 11,000 workers in more than 160 locations nationwide, including about 3,000 in Utah.

The ongoing row between airline giants Emirates and Lufthansa looks set to continue as the Dubai based carrier accuses the Germans of deliberately blocking a request for more access to Germany by making misleading claims. Emirates says that Lufthansa has distributed a document containing distorted facts about the Emirates business model, the number of flight Emirates makes to the country and the current situation regarding the carrier’s rights to land in Germany.
Emirates has made its dissatisfaction with Lufthansa’s document, which was distributed to German policy makers and the media, known in its own report which has been given the anti-protectionist title: Tearing Down the Other Wall.

Japan Airlines Reportedly Will Seek Debt Forgiveness, Slash 2,200 More Jobs

Japan Airlines is not commenting on reports in the Japanese media that it will seek ¥250 billion ($2.78 billion) in debt forgiveness from its creditors and increase its planned job cuts to 9,000.
The country’s new Democratic Party of Japan-led government, which took office last month, has expressed misgivings about JAL’s restructuring plan, which calls for cutting 14% of its workforce, or nearly 6,800 jobs, over the next three years while eliminating 50 routes, with a heavy emphasis on international reductions. American Airlines Cutting 921 Flight Attendant Jobs

American Airlines is cutting 921 flight attendant jobs as it deals with a continuing downturn in passenger traffic and revenue.
American, the nation’s second-largest airline, said the cuts would take effect Oct. 1 and reduce its flight attendant ranks by 6%.
