Find Best Deal Summer Season Airline Ticket Prices by Using Credit Card
May 18, 2011 | Air Travel
Keep Spirits High and Ticket Price Low This Summer by Being in the Know on Airline Credit Card Practices.
As airlines suffer a backlash from the Office of Fair Trading on the rising cost of booking by credit card, budget conscious consumers fear sticking to low cost travel could be a struggle.
Cheapflights.co.uk, the UK’s leading website for price search and comparison, breaks down the credit cards charges of 10 top airlines to help keep travelers in the know on where to find the best deals.
“While it’s difficult to avoid being charged altogether, it is possible to keep charges to a minimum depending on the type of card used and the airline you’re booking with,” says Nadine Hallak, Travel Expert for Cheapflights.
“Travelers should keep in mind that budget airlines may not always carry the lowest overall ticket price once all the ‘extras’ have been added, so it’s worth shopping around and doing the math as traveling with a flagship carrier could work out to be more cost effective,” adds Hallak.
The below list shows 10 Top Airlines and the fees they carry per type of credit card:
1. Iceland Express: 1% of total ticket cost on all cards.
2. Air Europe: £0 on Visa Debit, Mastercard Debit, Visa Credit, Mastercard Credit. NB: American Express is not accepted and there are no baggage fees when flying this airline.
3. British Airways: £0 on Visa Debit/Electron, Switch/Maestro, and Mastercard Debit. BA charges £4.50 on Visa Credit, Mastercard Credit, and American Express.
4. Virgin: £0 on all debit cards and £5.68 on all credit cards.
5. Monarch: £0 on Visa Electron, £3.90 on all other Debit cards, and £5.57 on Credit/Mastercard.
6. Jet 2: £5.56 booking fee and credit card fee of £5.76 on all credit cards. £5.56 booking fee on Debit Cards. £0 on Electron. £5.56 booking fee if using Paypal plus £2.47 Paypal fee on top.
7. BMI Baby: £9 on American Express, MasterCard, and Visa Credit. £6 on Visa Debit, Switch/Maestro, and Solo. £0 on Electron.
8. Flybe: £9 transaction fee plus £1 on top for Visa, American Express, and Mastercard. £9 transaction fee on Visa Debit, Switch/Maestro, and Solo cards. £0 on Electron.
9. Ryanair: £6 each way (on any card whether debit or credit).
10. Easyjet: £12.95 on American Express, Visa and Mastercard. £8 on Visa Debit and Mastercard Debit. £0 on Visa Electron.
Commenting on the hike in charges imposed by most airlines, Iceland Express’ CEO Matthias Imsland says, “Iceland Express is a low cost airline that strives to remain low cost. We are keen to keep our credit card charges to a minimum so as not to impact heavily on the overall cost of the flight. We include all taxes and surcharges from the outset and like our customers to see the cost of the flight upfront and be reassured that the price will not keep rising at every stage of the booking.

EasyJet Increases Fees for Booking Flight with Credit and Debit Card
April 26, 2011 | Airlines Companies
EasyJet has today increased its fees for booking flights with a credit and debit card.
To book using a debit card, it will now cost £8 per booking – up from the £5.50 it cost previously.
Last September consumer pressure group Which?, which is campaigning against the card charges, reported that easyJet charged £3.50 per booking to purchase tickets using a debit card.
It means the easyJet charge has more than doubled in a matter of months.
For customers booking with their credit card the new charge is even worse.
Under the latest changes it will cost a minimum of £12.95 per booking, up from £8 in September and a minimum of £10.45 yesterday, before the changes.
Despite these rises, easyJet is far from the industry’s worst performer, that accolade falls to Ryanair which charges a fee of £12 per person for a return flight, whereas easyJet charge per booking.
A family of four travelling with Ryanair would rack up a total charge of £48 just for paying for flights, while a similar easyJet booking would cost £8 to pay for.
Get JetBlue Partner Airlines Ticket on JetBlue Dot Com
April 24, 2011 | Airlines News
JetBlue Airways is making it even easier to travel on its interline partners with today’s announcement that tickets that include travel on Aer Lingus, American Airlines and Cape Air are now available for sale on jetblue.com. Aer Lingus and American Airlines tickets that include travel on JetBlue are already available on aerlingus.com and aa.com.
“Our growing presence in New York, Boston, and San Juan has positioned us to take advantage of important partnership opportunities,” said Robin Hayes, JetBlue’s Chief Commercial Officer. “This ability leverages our jetblue.com platform to drive even more benefit from our interline partnerships, while adding tremendous advantages to our customer, with more options and flexibility.”
For years, JetBlue’s website has made it easy for customers to book travel anywhere within the JetBlue network in just a few clicks. With this website enhancement, JetBlue is expanding the geographic reach of the site, allowing customers to book travel from within the JetBlue network to new international markets in Europe, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean – still with just a few easy clicks (a).
Aer Lingus
“Today’s announcement marks the continued development of Aer Lingus’ partnership with JetBlue, with a focus on providing customers with increased options from more U.S. markets to Ireland and other European destinations,” said Jack Foley, Aer Lingus’ Executive Vice President, North America. “Moreover, it reaffirms Aer Lingus’ commitment to providing low fares access for customers from new markets across the U.S.”
Now both jetblue.com and aerlingus.com, successful partners since 2008, offer customers the option to purchase tickets that include space on both carriers. Customers can fly from points within the JetBlue network to Boston or JFK, connect to Aer Lingus’ transatlantic service to Ireland, and then to over a dozen destinations across Europe.
American Airlines
“Our successful partnership with JetBlue has given our customers more travel options and has allowed us to grow in new markets,” said Virasb Vahidi, American’s Chief Commercial Officer. “With this new milestone of selling our tickets on each other’s website, our customers will benefit more from the strong networks of both airlines.”
Now, an American customer can buy AA tickets at jetblue.com, and a JetBlue customer can purchase JetBlue tickets at aa.com – giving customers of both carriers new sales channels from which to purchase tickets. The two carriers launched their partnership in March 2010 with an enhanced interline agreement, slot exchange and employee travel program. To date, the carriers have added new interline routes, instituted benefits to members of both carriers’ frequent flier programs and, with today’s announcement, allow customers to buy tickets on each others websites. To learn more about this partnership, go to: http://www.jetblue.com/flying-on-jetblue/airline-partners/american-airlines.asp.
Bookings are available to and from any of the 26 domestic JetBlue cities, and the 15 international American Airlines cities that are included in the carriers’ interline agreement. Furthermore, TrueBlue members are now able to rack up points on American’s flights between New York’s Kennedy Airport and Barcelona, Spain; Brussels, Belgium; Buenos Aires, Argentina; London, England; Madrid, Spain; Manchester, England; Milan, Italy; Paris, France; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Rome, Italy; Sao Paulo, Brazil; Tokyo (Narita), Japan; Tokyo (Haneda), Japan; and Zurich, Switzerland, as well as American’s new non-stop service to Budapest, Hungary. Customers flying or connecting through Boston can also earn points when flying to London, England and Paris, France.
Cape Air
“The timing is perfect,” said Cape Air President Dave Bushy. “As our busy summer season approaches on Cape Cod and the Islands, as well as the Caribbean and Florida, the ease of booking the entire trip on-line, with direct baggage transfers, is a huge convenience for our passengers.”
Cape Air was JetBlue’s first airline partner dating back to 2007 when JetBlue began to market and sell Cape Air flights between Boston and Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, Provincetown, Hyannis and Rutland, Vermont under a codeshare agreement. Today’s announcement of the interline capabilities of jetblue.com will provide customers with access to an expanded list of destinations in Cape Air’s Northeast U.S. network, as well as to its Caribbean network via San Juan, P.R. and to Key West, Florida via Fort Myers.
Other Interline Partners
JetBlue has interline agreements in place with six other airlines: EL AL Israel Airlines, Emirates, LAN Airlines, Lufthansa, South African Airways, and Virgin Atlantic Airways. Although customers cannot yet use jetblue.com to book tickets that include space on those airlines, it expects to add more partners to the website over the coming year.
British Airways Plans to Expand Flight Services Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
April 24, 2011 | Airlines News
British Airways will be expanding its services to Brazil by doubling the frequency of flights to Rio de Janeiro, from three to six flights per week.
The carrier will be providing cheap flights to Rio de Janeiro from Heathrow every day of the week except Mondays, leaving London at 12.15pm and arriving in the carnival city at 9.55pm local time. The route will be served by three B777 aircraft, giving travellers the options of flat beds in Club World class, the premium economy World Traveller Plus class or the basic World Traveller class.
“We are experiencing a real increase in demand for Rio and by doubling the number of frequencies, we are able to offer our customers more choice and greater availability,” said Neil Cottrell, head of network planning at BA. “Brazil is also experiencing strong economic growth and this capacity increase is a great opportunity for British Airways to be part of that growth,” he added.
BA also revealed that it has been lining up a re-launch of its brand for later in 2011. However, the airline would not provide any details of what the new campaign might include.
A spokesperson for BA said “We are currently working on the re-launch of the BA brand, first internally with our staff then later in the year as an advertising campaign.” The news was revealed in an article in Marketing Week, which quoted Kerris Bright, the company’s former global marketing chief, saying that the re-launch would “put a great brand back on the map.”
BA was said to have kept creative agency Bartle Bogle Hegarty for the project, as well as OgilvyOne for digital and direct marketing.

Cheap Flight Airlines Put Pressure on Airlines Raise Ticket Prices
February 27, 2011 | Airlines News
Low cost airlines like JetBlue Airways and Southwest put significant pressure on other airlines to lower their prices in cities where they compete directly.
Airline travel services are one of the commodity, the more people want to travel by using a cheap flight services. But in reality, the increase in fuel urged some airlines to raise ticket prices flights, so passengers difficult to get a cheap flight ticket.
OAG, an aviation information company, says that low cost flights are up by 9% from a year ago. These are scheduled flights provided by low cost carriers. Most of the increase has occurred in Asia Pacific and the Middle East.
While inexpensive tickets are to be found it is sometime difficult to make all the criteria line up and still get the low fares. Seats at advertised low prices may be limited. Dates make a huge difference in the rates available. Being picky about the number of layovers or the timing on itineraries can also cost big bucks.
A look at the CheapOAir home page highlights some of the current deals. Cancun flights by Spirit Airlines for $131, San Juan flights by JetBlue for $242, Virgin America with $145 flights to Seattle roundtrip, Frontier with $157 roundtrip flights to Las Vegas.
Emirates Airline Plans to Start Delivery 14 New Aircraft
February 10, 2011 | Airlines News
Emirates Airline plans to take delivery of 14 new aircraft in its upcoming fiscal year beginning April 1, and retain four others it had planned to remove, owing to strong traffic demand. The carrier operates 15 Airbus A380s, a number that will grow dramatically as deliveries ramp up.
“We will start constant delivery of the remaining 75 A380s from September 2011,” Divisional SVP-Commercial Operations Worldwide Richard Vaughan told ATW in Dubai. He said the A380s are still a kind of marketing tool and that passengers will change their schedules to be able to fly on the aircraft. Two of the airline’s 14 full flight simulators at its training facility in Dubai are dedicated to the type.
“The machine created a new landscape,” he observes. Vaughan confirmed that EK has no plans to install a different cabin configuration for high-density routes such as to India.
DXB suffers from capacity problems during peak hours. “It is a challenge for us to get our aircraft out on time,” he said. The strain should be eased somewhat when Concourse 3 is fully operational in 2013. It is dedicated to the A380 and will be capable of handling 25 of them at once. The Dubai government has not decided if and when EK will operate from the new Jebel Ali Airport, which is currently used by cargo airlines.
Commenting on the 2011 outlook, Vaughan said forward bookings are looking good but adds that “the price of fuel could be a problem if it rises to as much as $100 a barrel.”
EK carried 27.5 million passengers in the 2009-10 fiscal year, 60% of them changing aircraft in DXB. South America is one of the areas where EK believes there is scope for further expansion, but no definite routes or dates have been announced. It currently serves Sao Paulo Guarulhos. Copenhagen will become EK’s 27th European destination when it launches Aug. 1. The city of Basra, Iraq, became its 110th destination Feb. 2. EK will add a tenth daily flight to Australia in October, increasing the number of weekly offered seats Down Under from 22,000 to 25,000 in each direction.
“When we open a new destination in Europe, we need to add capacity in places such as the Far East and Africa to balance the network,” Vaughan explained.
Airline Tickets : Southwest Airlines Increasing Airfares $4 to $10 per Roundtrip Ticket
January 15, 2011 | Airlines Companies
Southwest Airlines, one of the busiest carriers at Raleigh-Durham International Airport, is raising fares for the first time in 2011.
The increase of $4 to $10 per roundtrip ticket is being matched by other major airlines including American, Delta, United, Continental and US Airways, The Associated Press reports.
Southwest spokesman Brad Hawkins told AP that the increases will help offset higher fuel and operating costs. Airlines, which lost billions in 2008 and 2009, turned profitable last year, fueled partly by higher ticket prices and various fees. Most carriers are expected to make money again this year.
Southwest raised prices $2 each way on trips up to 500 miles, $3 for 501 to 1,000 miles, and $5 each way on longer flights, AP reports.
